Atlanta United are in a couple of positions they don’t want to be in…on a losing streak and out of playoff contention, at least for now.
The Five Stripes lost to Minnesota 2-1. The team had plenty of opportunities, including a late goal by Saba Lobzhanidze in the 82nd minute of the game. They were set up for the equalizer with seven added minutes, but could not get another goal before full-time. Minnesota scored in the 53rd and 60th minute. Atlanta was never able to consistently penetrate Minnesota’s defense.
It was a game Atlanta should have won based on game stats. Atlanta dominated in ball possession 69%-31%, shot attempts 17-12, and corner kicks 13-9. Saves were even at 3 each.
This latest loss puts Atlanta United’s record at 3-3-4 and knocks them to 10th place in the MLS Eastern Conference. As of now, they are no longer in playoff contention and must break their streak of five winless games.
Atlanta United plays another home game on the 11th, this time against D.C. United.
