The L.A. Dodgers had the Atlanta Braves number this weekend, sweeping them in the three-game series.
Today’s 5-1 loss comes behind two back-to-back losses (Saturday: LA 11, ATL 2; Friday: LA 4, ATL 3) against a team the Braves will likely face in an upcoming pennant race. The Braves face the Dodgers again in the regular season in mid-September.
Today, like the past two games, the Braves offense was silenced by Dodger pitching, and Braves pitching couldn’t contain the Dodgers’ defense. Certainly not one of their newest and most talked-about additions, Shohei Ohtani, who blasted two home runs, one of which was a first-inning homer that sent already-on-base Mookie Betts past home base. The other was a .464 ft homer. Braves offense was only a homer by Marcell Ozuna in the 7th inning. The Braves were never able to add any further runs.
Pitcher Max Fried is now 2-1 for the year so far, with a 4.20 ERA.
The Braves will be looking to get back on the winning track at home in Truist Park later this week when they face the Boston Red Sox for a two-game series this Tuesday.
