The Falcons made some roster moves today in the shadow of another loss that once again put the team in a defensive mode with another big game days away.
The team announced they’ve added wide receiver Malik Heath, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, on NFL waivers. Heath played eleven games for the Packers this season, getting six receptions for 86 yards. He will fill the WR role for Drake London, who remains out due to a knee injury. He did not practice today, according to the Monday injury report.
The team released safety Jordan Fuller earlier today. Fuller played in three games for the Falcons this season.
The Falcons are in the middle of a rapid turnaround between Sunday’s 37-9 loss to the Seahawks and a meeting with division leaders Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this Thursday night. The Falcons are now 4 and 9 and out of the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.
Disgruntled Falcons fans and critics have been very vocal about wanting changes in the coaching staff, but coach Raheem Morris today dismissed any possibility of that. He told the press that coaching changes right now “are irrelevant” and the team would continue to evaluate their progress over the next four games.
Morris also said today:
- Special teams blunders: “We’ve got to make them (plays),” he said. “There’s no excuse for that. There’s no better way to put it other than frustration.”
- Missing the playoffs: “That’s awful. You never want to be in this spot.”
- Losing to the Seahawks: “Game got away from us at halftime with the kickoff return.”
- Jalon Walker’s injury status: “It was a bruise. Looking forward to him playing this week.”
- Drake London: Day-to-day status.
- Brandon Dorlus: Day-to-day status.
- Kaden Ellis: Said today he felt good. He had to leave the game early due to a possible injury.
Also, Ellis was asked about the message coach Morris gave the team after Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Ellis said it was to “fight”, and he elaborated on that again today in a locker room interview, posted by Falcons reporter Terrin Waack.
Falcons inside linebacker Kaden Elliss was asked about head coach Raheem Morris’ message to the team after yesterday’s loss to the Seahawks. Elliss said it’s to fight. What exactly does that mean, though? He went into real detail today in the locker room. Take a moment to read ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/1y3f7jkGB1
