The Atlanta Braves continued to shore up their lineup looking forward to next season.
The team announced three additions to manager Brian Snitker‘s coaching staff, filling the first and third base coach and bullpen coach positions. Two out of the three new coaches came through the Brave’s minor league staff. These hires fill the final gaps in the coaching staff for the 2024 season.
Matt Tuiasosopo
37-year-old Tuiasosopo is the new third base coach for the Braves. He previously spent three seasons managing the team’s triple-A affiliate, leading them to a 210-215 (.494) overall record. He will now assist bench coach Walt Weiss in overseeing the club’s infield. This is his first major league assignment after four seasons managing the Braves’ minor league teams. He won the Bobby Cox Award as the top manager in 2019 for leading Single-A Rome.
Tom Goodwin
55-year-old Goodwin has been named the Braves’ new first base coach. He previously spent the past two seasons as a “roving instructor” working with Atlanta’s minor league affiliates. His experience in coaching first base includes the Boston Red Sox (2018-21) and the New York Mets (2012-17), where he won a World Series title in 2018.
Erick Abreu
The Braves hope Abreu, 40, can improve the Braves’ less-than-stellar bullpen. The new bullpen coach comes to the Braves from the Houston Astros, where he was the pitching coach in the Houston minor leagues for nine seasons. He worked with the Astros’ Triple-A team, as well as the Astros’ DSL (2014-15), GCL (2016), Greeneville (2017), Tri-City (2018), and Quad City (2019.)
Spring training for the Braves starts February 22nd.
