Braves Injury Woes: Ozzie Albies, Max Fried Off Roster

The Atlanta Braves must brace themselves for two injury-directed absences.

Second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a left wrist fracture in the ninth inning of today’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals. After the game, X-ray tests confirmed the injury and the Braves said that Albies would be out for nearly eight weeks.

Albies tried to make a tag in the second inning and wound up clutching his chest after the tag. Albies will go on the injury list.

“It’s not good,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker in an interview after the game. He said the rash of injuries to key Braves players as of late is getting difficult for the team to cover.

“It’s to a point where you kind of go to the top here. After a while, it’s just hard.”

Media reports say that Nacho Alvarez is expected to be called up to replace Albies starting tomorrow.

This follows the Braves putting pitcher Max Fried on the 15-day injured list with left forearm neuritis, backdated to July 18th. Dylan Dodd has been called up in a corresponding roster move.

The Braves lost the game to the Cardinals 6-2.
