The Braves have conquered the East!
They won the National League East by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 1. Starting pitcher Spencer Strider kept the Phillies from rounding the bases or hitting balls out of the park. Austin Riley hit the only Braves home run, with 2 runs in 1st inning, 1 in the 3 and 4th for the Braves so far. The Phillies only plated a single run, in the first inning.
After the third strikeout that sealed the game for the Braves, the team jubilantly gathered in the middle of the field while a chorus of boos from Phillies fans at Citizens Bank Park was heard. Afterward, the team headed to the visiting team’s locker room for a champagne-drenched celebration.
The Braves’ victory means they will officially clinch the National League East Divisional Title, the sixth consecutive title they have won and the 22nd overall, a Major League Baseball record. The team now looks to the National League Pennant, then, if they win that, the World Series.
Ironically, the Phillies truncated the Braves run for a World Series Championship last year.
