Falcons coach Raheem Morris had the unpleasant task of talking about a Sunday Night Football loss when he’d rather be celebrating a win. And he added updates to some injured Falcons.
Divine Deablo, a key member of the Falcons defense, has a fracture in his forearm and is “week-to-week” according to Morris. He said he hopes to get Deablo back this season, but he “will miss some time” due to the injury.
Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has a bone bruise due to a fourth-quarter play. He is “day-to-day.” Morris will provide more information on Wendesday.
There was no news on sidelined defenders IL Troy Andersen (PUP) and OL storm Norton (IR). No news also on Ray-Ray McCloud.
He fielded questions about the ill-fated Sunday night game aganst the 49ers.
- The fourth down call: “Obviously it was the aggressive mindset. You kick the field goal, you still leave them with a bunch of time to go down and kick the field goal to win the game, “ said Morris. “We don’t want to be reckless with it, but we do want to be aggressive, so we took the agressive mindset,” and threw to Drake London.
- Why Bijan Robinson wasn’t on that play: “We got a lot of really good players on our football team,” said Morris. “We believe in a lot of the players on our football team. And looking back again right now, obviously you want Bijan on the field all the time and you can easily second guess that one.”
- Penix Jr’s performance: “Mike always wants to play better,” he said, adding there are always things that are correctable.
- Too many men on the field: “We’ve got to do a better job of getting those guys out there.”
- The 49ers: “They outplayed us. They were the more physical team. They deserved to win.”
