The Georgia State Panthers ended its season with a loss that seemed unlikely earlier in the game.
That’s because the Panthers led by 21 points in the first half while the Old Dominion Monarchs had no points at all. But things changed after halftime when the Monarchs tacked on 26 unanswered points and wound up edging out the Panthers by a final score of 24-25.
The Panthers had three touchdowns in the first half, but after that, none. The Monarchs scored three TDs after the half, plus a field goal and a safety. A Liam Rickman 22-yard FG was the Panthers’ only post-halftime score.
GSU QB Darren Grainger (26-36, 203 pass yards, 2 TDs, and 2 interceptions) scored the first TD, a 16-yard rushing score. In the second quarter, Ahmon Green went 29 yards and later 11 yards for two rushing TDs. Marcus Carrol had 15 carries for 57 rushing yards. Robert Lewis had 9 receptions for 91 yards.
The Monarch’s QB Grant Wilson went 15 of 33 for 208 yards, a TD, and one interception.
Georgia State finishes their season in sixth place in the Sun Belt Conference East, winning 3 of 5 conference games. Their overall record this season is 6-6.
