The Atlanta Hawks added more firepower to their lineup with another new signing.
The team announced it has signed guard Wesley Matthews. The terms of the agreement with Matthews were not disclosed per team policy.
Matthews has had a 14-year career in the NBA, with stints with the Utah Jazz (2009-10), Portland Trail Blazers (2010-15), Dallas Mavericks (2015-19), New York Nicks (2018-19), Indiana Pacers (2018-19), LA Lakers (2020-21) and his last team, Milwaukee Bucks (2019-20 and 2021-23). Altogether, he’s played 950 games in his NBA career, the 4th most by an undrafted player in NBA history.
Matthews hails from Marquette University, where he played for the Golden Eagles from 2005-09, and lead the team to the NCAA College Basketball Tournament all four years he was on the team.
The Hawks could use more three-shooting power on its roster and Matthews brings a consistent record of shooting triples, with 1,821 three-pointers in his career. He has the record for most three-pointers by an undrafted player in NBA history and the 10th most threes among all active players in the league.
6-4 Mathews averages 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 29.6 minutes.
Longtime Hawks fans will remember Matthew’s father, Wes Matthews Sr., who played for the team from 1980-83, 1984, and 1990.
The Hawks have offered no comment other than a statement announcing the Matthews signing.
