Hot Cubs Challenge Braves, Take 2-3 Series

The hot Atlanta Braves ran into trouble with a team that lately has also been heating up.

The Chicago Cubs (.518 winning percentage) took two games from a three-game series with the Braves. The Cubs winning series split became official Sunday when they beat the Braves 4 to 6, with their hitting making the difference. Mike Tauchman, Cody Bellinger, and former Brave Dansby Swanson were the key hitters for Chicago, who have seen their bats driving in runs prolifically lately. Braves pitcher Charlie Morton couldn’t keep the Cubs off the bases. Matt Olson drove in two of the Braves’ runs.

The Braves still lead the National League pennant race (+31 according to pennantrace.com) and have a league-best .642 winning percentage.

The Braves will stay on the road, with no off days, playing the Pittsburgh Pirates for four games starting tonight, then four games (the Aug. 12 game a double-header) against the New York Mets, then back home at Truist Park to play the New York Yankees.
