The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets found a way to win a game their opponent, North Carolina, seemed destined to win Saturday.
They wound up winning that game 46 to 42. At one time, the Jackets were down two touchdowns, but they kept biting off large chunks of NC’s lead until they finally caught up to them in the fourth quarter.
UNC led the Jackets for the first three quarters and half of the fourth quarter. In that quarter the Jackets slowed UNC down enough to come within three points of the Tar Heels. Then Jackets QB Hayes King went 52 yards to Dontae Smith, who carried the ball to the 3rd-yard line. King threw to Brett Seether, who went five yards to the endzone for the touchdown that would put the Jackets on top for good.
King completed 23 of 30 attempts. He got 230 yards and two touchdowns. Tar Heel QB Drake Maye completed 17 of 25 for 310 yards and two TDs. Smith had 178 rushing yards.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys right now,” said Tech’s head coach Brent Key after the game.
The Jackets next game is on the road, taking on the Virginia Cavaliers (2-6).
