Trae’s Back, But Can’t Save Hawks, Stung By Hornets 115-114

Despite the return of Trae Young and a record-breaking performance from Bogdan Bogdanovic, the Hawks couldn’t hold onto an 18-point lead and lost to the visiting Charlotte Hornets 115-114.

The loss came in the final three seconds of the game with the Hornets’ Miles Bridges scoring a bucket after a failed Bruno Fernando layup, leaving the Hawks no time to respond. Many of the starters were pulled out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Young, who was back on the court after nearly a month of recovering from a finger injury and subsequent surgery, played limited minutes in this game. He made the most of his time however, landing 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Bogdanovic set a new franchise 3-point shooting record, at 234 3-pointers a season. That record was originally set by Young.

The Hawks looked like they were headed for victorious night, building an 18-point lead in the 3rd quarter that would evaporate in the fourth. Unable to protect their large point advantage, they would wound up losing by one point, even as the Hawks made 52% of their shots and 45% of their three-pointers.

The next regular season game for the Hawks will be this Friday, against the Timberwolves.
