U.S. Soccer has settled on a new home in Metro Atlanta. On the south side.
The soccer federation today announced it has chosen Fayette County, Georgia, as the site for the upcoming National Training Center. It will be in close proximity to the Trilith community and will cover more than 200 acres of land. US Soccer stated that they looked at nine different locations across metro Atlanta before settling on Fayette County.
What drew U.S. Soccer to Fayette? Closeness to Hartsfield-Jackson Airport and Downtown Atlanta, a climate suited for year-round soccer, economic impact, and “the opportunity to be part of a diverse, growing community.”
Coca-Cola, one of Atlanta’s largest corporate residents, played a key role in selecting U.S. Soccer’s eventual headquarters.
“We’re proud to be building a home that will support the future of soccer in America,” said U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone, in a statement. “The National Training Center will help player development at the highest level and serve as a central destination to support and inspire players across the country as well as a hub of knowledge and resources for all our member organizations. U.S. Soccer will work with local officials and corporate partners on the ground to engage the vibrant communities in Fayette County and the Metro Atlanta area to build new career pathways to sport, connect with fans, and grow the soccer community.”
Sports in the ATL last reported on the newly planned facility last September.
The new facility will not be too far from Trilith Studios, which is a major film and television production studio in Fayette County, where hit films like “Avengers: Endgame” and “WandaVision” were filmed.
