Atlanta Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos spoke to the press about his team’s ongoing offensive issues.
Anthopoulos told reporters that although he understood the team was underperforming, at least offensively, he noted that other teams (with the exception of the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies) also were not meeting expectations, especially when it comes to offense.
“We haven’t played well. I’m stating the obvious there.”

“We haven’t played well, he said, speaking with reporters today at Truist Park. “One thing if you look at the standings, obviously, the fact that the majority of the National League isn’t playing well has been good for us.” He noted that although the Braves need to play better, they are fortunate that other teams in their league are also running behind last year’s standings.
Braves fans and observers, used to seeing the team competitive, if not outright leading the NL East as they did last season, are this season watching the Braves losing six of their last ten games since May 29. The Braves are .547, with a winning record of 35-29, but well below the Phillies, who have the best record currently in baseball at .697, and 10 games ahead of the Braves. Atlanta is currently on a four-game losing streak.
The reason many cite for these losses is lack of hitting, with Marcell Ozuma (DH) totaling 75 hits so far to lead an underperforming offense.
When asked what he could do about the Braves’ skid, he said he was actively talking with other teams about trade possibilities, but nothing was imminent. Anthopoulos said he, along with the rest of the team, is doing the best they can to right the ship.
“Everyone’s doing what they can,” he said.
