Atlanta United has moved Matthew Lawrey to interim head coach Rob Valentino‘s staff as assistant coach, the team announced today.
Lawrey was the Five Stripes Academy Director from June 2021 to April 2024, where he oversaw soccer operations for each of the academy teams and Atlanta United 2. He was also an interim assistant coach during the 2020 USL season. He later moved to an on-field role as individual development coach.
Lawrey played for the University of Mary Washington from 2006-2010, then became Assistant Coach for the men’s soccer program there.
