Atlanta became the focus of the soccer world tonight as Copa América 2024 launched at Mercedes Benz Stadium.
The global soccer event brought fans around the world to Atlanta, giving host venue MBS a sellout crowd and underscoring the city’s growing reputation as a domestic meca for soccer.
An estimated 70,564 fans saw Lionel Messi and the rest of team Argentina defeat Canada 2-0, with goals by Julián Alvarez in the 49th minute, and Lautaro Martinez in the 88th minute. Despite repeated attempts to match Argentina’s performance, Canada was never able to overcome Argentina’s defense or its offense.
The next Copa América match at MBS will be Panama vs. United States on June 27 at 6 PM.
