Falcons Adding to QB Roster? Team Shows Interest In Patriots’ Rourke

The Atlanta Falcons apparently aren’t finished looking for a passer, despite having three on their roster already.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Wendesday that the team put in a waiver claim for former New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nathan Rourke. This does not mean Rourke is headed to Flowery Branch, however, because the New York Giants have a higher waiver priority. He will be playing for the Giants next season.

The Falcons’ interest in Rourke, or any other QB for that matter, is curious since they have already signed Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback, then, drafted Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. at number eight in this year’s NFL Draft. Backup QB Taylor Heinicke also remains on the roster.

Rourke hasn’t seen much action in the NFL. Although he was with the Jaguars and Patriots last season, he did not appear in a regular-season game, according to Pro Football Talk.
