Five Stripes Land in MLS Playoffs after 2-2 Draw With Cincy

Atlanta United are now in the playoffs after drawing a 2-2 final score against Cinncinatti FC in their home turf.

Giorgos Giakoumakis kicked both of Atlanta’s goals in the 12th and 32nd minutes of the game. For Cinncinatti, Dominique Badji (25th) and Luciano Acosta (45th+2) score their goals.

“Coming to this field, to this stadium, playing against the first team in the league, the champions, I think we should be proud,” said Atlanta United’s striker Giakoumakis after the game. “We should take all the positive things from this game and go into the payoffs and compete at the same time, at the same level.”

Trouble erupted in the 51st minute for the Stripes when Thiago Almada got his second yellow card after he was found to have kicked a Cinncinatti player who did not have the ball. Two yellow cards equal a red card and Almada was ejected from the game. He will miss the first playoff game as a result.

Cincinnati took 17 shots over Atlanta’s 13, and owned the ball for longer, 57% over 43%.

6th place Atlanta will play the 3rd place Columbus Crew in the first round of the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs at Lower.com field in Columbus, Ohio. The second round will be played at Mercedes Benz Stadium, The opponent, time and day have not yet been announced for the second round.
