Looking Ahead to This Weekend in Atlanta Sports

Here’s what’s coming up this weekend in Atlanta sports:

High school football

We are almost at the midpoint of high school football season and the state championships are in sight for many of Atlanta’s high school football teams. Buford, Mill Creek, Kell, and Walton are among the schools to watch this Friday night. Watch for the final scores late tonight here on Sports In The ATL.com.

Georgia Bulldogs are off this weekend, but…

Other SEC football teams jousting below the Dawgs are in action this week. Among the key SEC games this Saturday: #17 Tennessee vs. #11 Alabama, and #13 Ole Miss vs. Auburn. Outside of the SEC, there’s #2 Michigan vs. Michigan State, #7 Penn State vs. #6 Ohio State, and #10 University of North Carolina vs. Vanderbilt.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

The Yellow Jackets face Boston College at Bobby Dodd Stadium at noon on Saturday. Both teams have the same 3-3 record, and both teams are coming off of a win. Can the Jackets keep their win going to two straight games?

Georgia State Panthers

The Panthers are 5 -1 this season and have a stronger record than the team they will face tomorrow, the Louisana-Layfayette Ragin’ Cajuns, who are 4-2 on the season. The game starts at 8 pm on Saturday at Cajun Field in Louisana.

Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks will conclude their preseason with a home game on Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers. Their regular season starts in Charlotte against the Hornets this Wendesday.

Atlanta United

This is a “Decision Game,” and the Five Stripes need a win against Cincinnati FC to boost themselves further into playoff territory. They will play in Cinncinatti at 6 pm on Saturday.

Atlanta Falcons

This isn’t a must-win game for the Dirty Birds, it’s a need-to-win game as they, and particularly quarterback Desmond Ridder need to bounce back from a disastrous home game against Washington last Saturday. If they beat the Tampa Bay Bucs this Sunday, they will have sole possession of the NFC South. The game is in Tampa at 1 pm Sunday.
