Falcons Cut Tight End Jonnu Smith

The Atlanta Falcons announced this afternoon that they are parting ways with tight end Jonnu Smith.

Originally reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the 2023 season was Smith’s only season with the Falcons. He previously was with the New England Patriots, who sent Smith to Atlanta in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.

He was in 17 games last season, where he caught 50 of his 70 targets for 582 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.

Smith’s departure will save the Falcons $6.5 million towards the Falcons salary cap, according to Over The Cap’s data.

The Falcons now have four tight ends: Kyle Pitts, MyCole Pruitt, Tucker Fisk, and John FitzPatrick.
