The Georgia State Panthers defeated the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns 20 – 17 Saturday night.
This win extends the Panthers’ record to 6-1 and puts the hot team two victories away from being eligible to compete in the playoffs. They are ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference.
Panthers quarterback Darren Grainger went 17 for 22 pass attempts, for 211 yards, and two touchdowns. GSU running back Marcus Carroll got 110 rushing yards on 26 carries. Tailique Williams went 81 yards on 6 receptions.
GSU’s Ahmon Green took two Granger passes to the end zone, the first a 24-yard pass and the second a 3-yard pass. Mikele Coloasurdo took a 3-yard run to score the Panther’s third TD. All three TDs were in the second quarter. The Cajuns scored two TDs in the game, one in the 2nd and the other in the 3rd quarter.
The scoring sequence was 0-20-0-0 for the Panthers, 0-7-10-0 for the Cajuns. The Panthers totaled 343 yards over the Cajuns’ 289, however, the Cajuns held the ball longer, 32:12 over the Panthers 27:48. The Panthers turned the ball over twice, once for Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Panthers face an opponent from their own state, Georgia Southern (5-2), next Saturday.
